Senior Caseworker – Firearms and Explosives Licensing Unit

The main purpose of the role is to provide a case management and file building function in relation to issue of complex firearms / explosive / dealerships licensing applications and queries ensuring continuity of support and compliance with Force and legislative standards for the Firearms Licensing process.

 

Main Responsibilities:

To update, analyse and interrogate IT record and intelligence systems in accordance with Force policy, Management of Police Information (MoPI) and national guidelines.

To ensure effective processing of complex firearm / shotgun / dealership / explosive applications and any other certificate maintenance tasks in order to progress the matter to conclusion.

To manage the more complex applications which require a higher specialist/technical knowledge, e.g. licensing and certification of Clubs, Firearms Dealers and Explosives.

To consider each case by utilising a full risk assessment presenting the recommendations whilst demonstrating a robust audit trail.

To prepare detailed handover packages for further investigation by Supervisors and process subsequent reports and follow up actions.

To obtain statements/conduct enquiries by telephone where appropriate.

To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required. 

 

Experience/Skills:

Knowledge:

Knowledge of firearms licensing processes and national guidelines relating to explosive regulations and Registered Firearms Dealers.

Experience:

Experience of interpreting and applying firearms and explosives licensing guidelines and managing firearms applications.

Experience as working as part of a team in a customer service environment, managing a high and varied work load.

Key Skills:

Proven ability to communicate both orally and in written form with a wide range of people.

Proven ability to gather and collate information using appropriate questioning techniques and create and maintain accurate records.

Competent in the use of IT, including Microsoft packages.

Proven ability to work under pressure towards deadlines.

Ability to read and understand complex instructions.
